Descending from the stars

You existed before the beginning of Earth...
You existed before the stars shone
Descended from the stardust...

You existed as a particle lone.
Astrology is what you ridicule?
An astrologer, you think, is a fool?*
You say we’re not linked to the stars?
Or to Venus, or to Mars?

What makes you and your flesh and blood?
You know you started from the mud –
And the very dust that makes the Earth
In that distant star it took its birth.

You talk and laugh and walk and run
Doesn’t it all come from the sun?
The ATPs that power you –
You still wonder how they grew?

To dust thou returnest, dust thou art –
And why the hell did it all start?
Raising entropy – a destiny One –
Of yours and the stars' – you know how it’s done.

In matter, energy and destiny... we are all linked to the stars.
Existing since the beginning of time,
Since the very conception of this so-called "universe"...

*Note: I am not defending astrology or any other pseudoscience in any way in this poem. In this particular couple of lines, I am only targeting the people who argue that humans can, in no way, be linked to stars and planets. Otherwise, this poem, as a whole, is only a crude attempt to describe the eternity of all existence, inspired by the words of the great cosmologist Carl Sagan.
